US CHAMPIONSHIP NEWS:  

The 2004 US Championship is expected to be held in September.  There will be qualifying tournaments in both 2003 and 2004.  The 2003 qualifying events (Foxwoods Open, Chicago Open, National Open, World Open, US Open) will each have two overall qualifying spots.  The 2003 World Open will also have an additional qualifying spot for women.  The fee for those wishing to play for qualification is $75 per tournament.  Our online shopping cart is now set up to accept these fees for the 2003 Foxwoods Open, Chicago Open, and World Open.

Prizes $100,000 based on 650 entries; else proportional, minimum $70,000 (70% of each prize) guaranteed. Unrated Section players count as 1/3 entry toward prize fund. Unrated must enter Unr or Open section.  In 8 sections:

Open Section: Prizes $10000-5000-2500-1200-800-600-500-500-400-400, U2400/Unr $2000-1000-700-500. Winner gets free room at 2004 Foxwoods Open.  If tie for first, top 2 on tiebreak play speed game 4/20 10:30 pm (white 6 minutes, black 5 minutes & gets draw odds) for title & free room. A US Championship qualifier (details later).

Under 2000 Section:

Unrated Section: $1000-600-400-300-200; players without US Social Security ID may not win over $500.

Prize limits for players with under 10 games played as of 4/03 list: U1200 $1000, U1400 through U2200 $2000. Games rated too late for 4/03 list not counted. Balance of prize goes to next player(s) in line.

Mailed entry fee: 4-day $199, 3-day $198 if mailed by 1/14; 4-day $229, 3-day $228 mailed by 4/8; all $250 at site. CSCA members may deduct $4 from mailed EF only. No checks at site, credit cards OK.

Reg. ends Fri 8 pm, rounds begin Fri 9 pm, Sat 10 am, 1 pm, 4 pm and 7 pm, Sun 10 am & 4:30 pm.
    Half point byes:
OK all rounds; limit 2, rds 5-7 byes must commit before rd 4. Both schedules merge & compete for same prizes.

Hotel rates:
Grand Pequot Tower (tournament site) $110 single or twin, Great Cedar Hotel (connected building; very close) $99 single or twin, Two Trees Inn (15 minute walk; free shuttle) $89 single or twin. 1-800-FOXWOOD, you must reserve by April 3 or you will have to stay at least 3 miles away.  

HOTEL UPDATE:  Foxwoods rooms appear to be sold out.  Here are some alternatives (rates may change):

Hilltop Inn, 877-965-0500.  By far the closest to Foxwoods (3 miles away); the other hotels are 10 miles or more. Rates are $399 for 3 nights or $499 for 4 nights.

Best Western, 860-536-4281.  $79 per night ($89 Saturday), and if you stay 3 or 4 nights,  $59 per night.

Days Inn, 860-572-0574.  $69 Thu/Sun, $85 Fri, $109 Sat.

Comfort Inn, 860-572-8531.  $80/night ($100 Saturday night).
