PLEASE NOTE: For all tournaments, adjusted FIDE or foreign ratings, if higher than USCF, may be used for foreign or recently foreign players. Players must disclose FIDE or foreign ratings when entering, or may later be expelled. Other ratings such as club, league, scholastic, state or province, etc, adjusted if appropriate, may be used at our discretion if above USCF.  No rating below the latest official USCF rating, on the list corresponding to the ending date of the tournament, will be used. For 9 round events offering title norm possibilities, FIDE ratings are used. Click here for further details.

UPDATE REGARDING CORONAVIRUS:

Some of our events are being cancelled. All tournaments now have prizes based on entries.
Please watch this page for updates rather than asking us if an event is cancelled.

If an event is held, please note the following:

Players will be told to not shake hands before or after play.
Players are asked to bring and use hand sanitizer and extra sanitizer will be available.
Players who appear to be ill may be removed from the tournament.

Due to the coronavirus emergency, the following tournaments have been canceled:
Southern Class, March 27-29
Mid-America Open, March 27-29
Open at Foxwoods, April 8-12
Eastern Class. Apr 24-26
New York State Open, May 15-17
New York State Scholastics, March 14-15

More cancellations may soon be announced at www.chessevents.us.

We are not considering canceling the Chicago Open or World Open, and are hopeful the virus threat will be greatly reduced by the time these events are scheduled for.

The early entry (lowest fee) deadline for the Chicago Open is March 19, and for the World Open April 15.

Refunds will be credited to all (unless you ask for a credit instead), which is a tremendous job and may take about three weeks. You do not need to ask for a refund. They will be done in chronological order, which means the first event refunded will be the New York Scholastics, which had 1000 advance entries.

Entries paid by credit card will be refunded back to the same card.  After we process a refund, it often takes an additional week or so before you will see it in your account.

The usual refund service charge ($15) will not be charged for canceled tournaments. Those who previously received refunds with a $15 service charge deducted now have a $15 credit toward a future entry- if you want a $15 refund instead, please email director@chess.us about April 5, as we want to handle the full refunds first.
To use your $15 credit if you have one, enter any of our future tournaments offering advance entries by mail to Continental Chess, PO Box 8482, Pelham NY 10803 or paypal to chesstour@aol.com. Pay the online fee minus $15, and say you are using your credit.
You can also do the above to use your entire entry fee as a credit if we have not refunded it yet. This is especially recommended if you are planning to enter the Chicago Open, because the early entry deadline is March 19.

If you mail an entry, please include tournament, section, schedule, and USCF ID. If you use paypal, also send an email to director@chess.us including this info.

For tournaments with door entries only such as blitz, if you have a $15 credit, you can enter at the site for $15 less.

SPECIAL ADDRESS FOR DROPOUTS:
We receive so much email that it is difficult to keep track of important messages, such as those regarding players who have entered a tournament but will be unable to attend.  To simplify this task, we have set up a special email address for mail regarding such withdrawals.  It is DropoutsAtChess.US (use the @ symbol instead of "At."). Please use this address for the following purposes:
            1. To notify us that you will not be able to attend a tournament that you entered.  This should be done at least 2 hours before your first game.
            2. To inquire about a credit or a refund from a past tournament you entered but did not attend.

SPECIAL ADDRESS FOR PRIZES:

We have a new email address for mail concerning prizes that were not claimed at tournaments. It is PrizesAtChess.US (use the @ symbol instead of "At.") To contact us regarding a prize due, please use this address so that we do not have to search for your mail among hundreds of other emails.

To avoid huge ballroom rent, most of our tournaments count on having many players use guest rooms at the host hotel, and asking for the chess rate gives the tournament credit.  For all tournaments, please stay at the tournament site whenever possible and ask for the chess rate.  Thank you for your help!
